I’ve spent most of my life around motorcycles, performance, and pressure.
I began racing in 1996 and spent sixteen years as a professional motorcycle racer. I had a turbulent but successful run, winning races at National and British Championship level. Narrowly missing out on a couple of championships due to my win at all costs, crash and burn attitude. If you don't crash, you're not trying hard enough, right?
Motorcycle racing was everything to me. But like most sports, it has a short career lifespan. By my late twenties, I’d started planning for life after racing. I’d always had a huge passion for training, so I began studying sport and exercise nutrition, and strength and conditioning while I was still competing.
In 2012, I suffered an injury that forced retirement early. But by then, my next chapter had kinda already begun.
The fact I’d always kept myself in decent shape hadn’t gone unnoticed. A couple of years prior to my career-ending injury, fellow competitors were beginning to ask me for help with their own training, nutrition, and race preparation too.
That work became The MAD Academy.
It started with the simple idea that riders need support from people who understand what the sport actually demands. Not generic gym plans. Not copy-and-paste nutrition advice. Proper preparation for the harsh demands of motorsport.
The deeper I got into that work, the more obvious the gaps became. Too many athletes were training from proxies, fueling from online calculators, and following plans that looked good on paper but had little to no effect on performance outcomes. So testing became the spine of the operation.
Before COVID, I'd regularly send my athletes to universities for routine metabolic testing. Then the pandemic temporarily shut those doors. The race series carried on under controlled conditions, so the work didn’t stop. Riders still needed programming, and proper programming still required testing.
I couldn’t build plans from guesswork just because access to testing had disappeared. So I completed a postgraduate diploma in exercise physiology, bought a metabolic cart, and started testing my athletes myself.
At first, the cart was there to support the riders I was already working with. Then people outside the sport started asking for testing too. So I opened a lab in North Yorkshire, UK, and Metabolix was born.
Metabolix gave me the ability to measure what most athletes were guessing; how they use fuel, where their thresholds sit, and what their training should actually be built around.
But over time, one thing became impossible to ignore.
Even gold-standard testing has limitations. CPET remains the best way to establish cardiorespiratory fitness and identify the data points required to personalize training and nutrition. But it is still episodic. It happens under controlled conditions, and it captures the athlete at one point in time.
Then physiology changes.
Training changes. Fatigue changes. Fueling changes. Life happens. The data might still be accurate, but it starts drifting away from the person it was meant to guide.
That realization inspired me to build something different.
A system that not only establishes accurate, personalized data, but one that also keeps that data alive.
An adaptive human performance OS that monitors internal metabolic state in real time, turns that into personalized training, fueling, and recovery decisions, explains the reasoning behind each recommendation, and updates as physiology changes.
That system is, YNSYGHT.
In one sense, it is the next evolution of Metabolix. But it is also the system I wish had existed when I was racing, coaching, and trying to make better decisions with incomplete information.
I’ve been the rider. I’ve been the coach. I’ve been the person in the lab trying to turn numbers into something useful. Now I’m building the layer that connects those worlds properly.
And yes, I’m still fast on a motorcycle.
